How do you set up a Windstream email account on iPhone 3gs?

How do you set up a Windstream email account on iPhone 3gs?|||I should first point out that Internet Service Provider (ISP) based e-mail account don't function exceptionally well on mobile devices. The reason for this is that for security purposes most ISPs do not allow sending email messages through their server unless you are connected to the web through their service. Which means that when you're not at home connected to the internet through Windstream and not on wifi at a different place that uses Windstream, then your mobile device won't be allows to send email through their server.

There are a few work arounds for this:

One, this only applies to email clients and not webmail. You could set up your mobile device to use webmail instead of the mail client. However, webmail isn't particularly convenient on the iphone.

The other work around is to allow the phone to send the email message directly through AT%26amp;T email server (don't worry, the emails will still come from your email, just take a different path). The drawback here is that you'll only be able to send email when you're connected to edge or 3G on your phone, and not when you're connected to WiFi because AT%26amp;T is also an ISP and you must be connected to them to send mail through their servers.

The third solution is the most elegant, but the least convenient. You can switch to a gmail account and have your Windstream email forwarded there. Gmail is designed to work globally on an ISP and has IMAP capabilities which means it's designed to work on multiple and mobile devices. It's also the solution I suggest.

If you want to go head with your Windstream account in full, you should use the following settings:

Name: "name"

Address: username@windstream.net

Description: username@windstream.net

Incoming

Host name: pop.windstream.net

user name: username@windstream.net

password: "password"

Outgoing mail server:

host name: smtp.windstream.net

user name: username@windstream.net

password: "password"

Advanced:

Incoming settings:

use ssl : off

authentication :

sever port: 995

outgoing settings

use ssl: off

auth:

server port: 587

If you'd like to use the AT%26amp;T outgoing server, go to settings-%26gt;mail,contacts,calendars-%26gt;usern鈥?and make sure the AT%26amp;T SMTP Server is turned on.
