i am trying to get my xbox 360 onto xbox live and i was wanting to know how or if it is possible to splice my ethernet cable from the computer to the xbox 360 that way i don'tt have to deal with switching the cables due to me being disabled. i have a windstream modem with a single ethernet port and one of those fancy USB connections that is almost a square. and the computer only has one ethernet port also. any tips or tricks?|||1) You need a router to use more than one external IP.
ISP's only give you one external IP.
Even if you bought a switch, only one device would be on the internet at a time.
2) You can't splice an ethernet cable unless you really know what you're doing, and already have a switch to begin with. The only way this would be possible is to splice both ends of the cable, using pins 1,2,3 and 6 for each connection. Make sure they are both part of a twisted pair. You can't just plug one end into the modem and do this, though, it must be on both ends, which would require a switch. This is a terribly rigged solution to begin with, as you would already have a switch, defeating the purpose of ever splicing a cable.|||time for an upgrade killer. wireless is great! but here is a switch to do what you want. the guy below is correct however seeing as to the fact that you just want one at a time the switch would be easier.|||Think "HUB."
