In theory ANY DSL modem should work, but might be worth asking them if they reccomend any.

Why does my internet go out when it rains?
I've had Windstream dsl for about a year now and I've had problems with it since I got it, but it seems like it's worse when it is raining. I had a technician come to my house to look at it but he just sat at my computer for 20 minutes, did nothing, said it was fine, and charged me $45. I can't get them to do anything about any problems I have with their dsl inside or outside the house. Can i get a modem that is not from my Internet Service Provider?
Say i get a motorola modem even though i hav windstream|||you need to check with your ISP to find out what modems are compatible with there service|||Yep. 2Wires are the easiest to come by. You can probably pick one up at your local computer store. They are also the same brand that AT%26amp;T uses. Most modern modems have a wifi router built into them. If this is to your liking, I would expect to spend around 80 bucks. Keep in mind, no matter what modem you have, you are most likely going to need to configure the device to match whatever settings your ISP requires.|||Better to get router / modem. But there ae some non-standard ISPs whose required settings for the connection require changing protocols configurations, and one or two who even require a firmware update on the router.

Well, I know that people can track IP address and where someone lives. However, I searched my IP in an IP address locator and it came up with Windstream (my internet service provider). Does this mean that if someone decides to track my IP, they can only find out where Windstream is located, instead of where I am?|||From the ip you can only get a rough location of where the ip is. In some cases the country and in others even the city. To get even deeper only the isp can tell and they don't do it for security reasons except for authorities.|||They can find out your provider and, depending on how your provider is set up, maybe your town or neighborhood. If that segment only covers one town, you're in that town. If it covers only one building, like, say, a large building in NYC, you're in that building. But if that segment covers 5 towns, you're in one of them, and that's as close as it gets without a search warrant.

What is up with windstream?
Every time I'm on the internet the dsl light on the modem shuts of then comes on in about 20 sec it disconnects me off of xbox live 2 how do I fix this|||You should contact your DSL provider and let them know you are losing your connection. Windstream Wireless Internet Keeps Freezing!!! Help?!?!?
We have the main home computer directly hooked into a DSL router, and our other 2 computers and 1 pinter run wirelessly! For the past few days, the internet has been REALLY slow, 54 mbps, and the websites keep freezing and saying cannot be displayed! However, the diagnostic says their is no problems!
What could it be?! It's not a firewall or a virus?! Both of those have already been checked!

I need help hooking up another computer to the internet with windstream?
We just switched our internet service from road runner to windstream, and since my upstairs computer was in the shop at the time, the guy who installed our service just gave us one router for our downstairs computer, and with only 1 ethernet port. It just has 3 ports for power to the dish and to our computer, so I'm not sure how to get my upstairs computer hooked up now. I have an ethernet cable in place that runs upstairs. Could I just purchase an ethernet doubler and hook it up, and use the same router for two computers?|||If it's really a router, just add a switch to it's one LAN port, then plug whatever you need into those switch ports.

How do I get Internet on my new desktop? (windstream modem question)?
Ok, I have two desktop computers. one of them has had internet by Windstream since i got it a few months ago. I recently got another one and I was wondering how I can get internet on it. do I have to buy another DSL modem? Is there any other way to get it to the 2nd desktop? I do have Wi-Fi, but i dont think that works with desktops

If there is a free spot then you need to get an eithernet cable that is long enough to reach your second computer and you should be fine.

My verizon phone won't let me call my boyfriend because of the "windstream long distance network"
- I have always been able to call my boyfriend with no problems.
- He has AllTel and I have Verizon.
- I have tried contacting him from my phone, my mothers phone, and two of my friends phones, we all have verizon and none of his can contact him because we all receive the same message saying; "Your call cannot be connected with this number to the windstream long distance network. Please contact customer service."

How do I stabilize my dsl modem's connection?
It's a speedstream modem for windstream internet. The problem is it drops the dsl, and connects again randomly at least 25 times a day if not more. I've called their customer service line, but they just told me to reset the modem (which i did) and it didn't work. Help. I don't want to spend another hour on the phone with someone who can't fluently speak my language. It's frustrating.|||Does your dsl light blink or go out when it drops? If so, sounds like a bad filter, line or jack...or could be a line problem on the windstream side. Check out the following link with more steps on what to do. Can i get nat for my ps3 on windstream isp?
i cant get a nat 2 setting on my ps3 currently i have nat 3. i am using windstream for my isp and have a gigaset 4300 modem and a netgear wgr614 v8 wifi router. i have tried almost everything from port forwarding to using my pppoe passwords and user names. the router is not blocking its the modem that is stopping me from what i gather ive tried resetting settings and bridging my modem but it just stops my internet in the whole house im at a total loss and embarrassed seeing as im studying networking but i figured its time to seek outside help please reply if you have any ideas|||you might want to call your isp and have them check your connection , or ask if they can provide a different modem if that's the problem . if it's on their end only they can change it .

Right now Windstream is my primary mail but when I move in November Yahoo will become my primary and only email server and I need to information to install it.|||In order to use a separate email program, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, or Thunderbird, with Yahoo Mail you need POP3. It is also needed when using any program or right clicking on a file to directly send email. It is free in the UK, AU, and NZ but in the US you must pay for Yahoo Mail Plus. Do you have to pay phone bill to have internet?
My family gets windstream phone, tv, and internet. We do not use the home phone. Do you have to pay the phone bill in addition to the internet bill in order to use the internet? I guess the internet (dsl) comes through the phone line, but I was wondering if there was any way to minimize monthly costs on that.|||you can strip down the phone service to the bare minimal... message rate service, where you would pay for each call made... the monthly bill for the phone service should be around $10 for this...
you could also get dry loop DSL service, which is DSL with out a phone line, however dry loop DSL normally costs more money that DSL bundled with telephone service, so it may just be cheaper to keep the line....

How good is 3Mbps Ethernet Internet from Windstream compared to HughesNet satellite internet?
My company is out in the country and we do not have access to DSL or cable so we are currently useing HughesNet satellite internet which is better than dial up but not great. Windstream has just made available to us Ethernet Internet at 3Mbps. It sounds like it will be a lot better but I want to make sure that it is going to be worth the 3 year contract and $299 per month fee. We are currently paying $214 per month for HughesNet 2Mbps not garanteed, usually runs at about 1.3Mbps with a lots of outages but we are out of contract.|||In my experience all satellite internet providers are pretty equally unreliable. If this is for business I would go with the faster 3mbps, but if this is a residential install you will have to weigh out the pros and cons and take a deep look at your contract to see how guaranteed their "Guarantee" actually is.

How to connect a windstream modem to a linksys router?
I just recently got windstream highspeed dsl modem. I have a linksys wrt54g router that I would like to hook up with the windsteam modem. I don't know how to do that. I was able to connect my previous modem to the router but I cannot figure this one out. Can someone help me or point me in the right direction. I'm a noob so you'll have to speak in simple terms. HELP!!!!|||The phone line plugs into the modem. The modem plugs into the router's wan or internet port using the ethernet cable. Using another ethernet cable, connect your computer to the router. Then, you need to log into the router and configure its connection type to use PPPoE. After that is done, enter your dsl username and password. Save that info, and it should connect.|||Simple terms your modem should have an incoming line for service dsl means phone the linksys should have a port on the back labled WAN this is the ethernet port you should connect your modem to. That is assuming that your modem has a ethernet port. which is where you run into trouble I am guessing. If your modem only has a usb port then you either want to get a new modem or you can get a small converter from your local computer store It is a USB to ethernet Or there may be a usb inon the router whisch I think there is. So then you would use a serial usb which has one square end This should get you where you are going I hope

I recently moved to a new city and changed my ISP to windstream. They sent me a new modem and I've hooked it up with my Belkin Wireless G router. Now I'm suddenly having a problem were my modem will not let me join random friend's xbox live parties or game lobbies. On Halo it will tell me I have an open NAT. It will pick a friend and basically block me from connecting to them in anyway for like a week or more. I've tried putting my xbox in my routers DMZ zone but nothing works. It's not the router though, I used this router with my xbox before with better then good results!.|||Make sure your modem isn't doing address translation. New Windstream Modem blocks World of Warcraft?
My girlfriend and i just got the newest all-in-one router/modem from windstream yesterday. Our internet works great. No issues there. We can surf the web all day with no problems. Whats wierd is it will allow us to download patches for World of Warcraft but won't let us login and play the game. Our login screen times out every time on both our computers saying it's unable to connect. I have found though if i reset the modem and go through the whole painful reactivation process which takes about 10 minutes, we can actually get in the game for a short while before it blocks or disconnects us or what ever it's doing to us again. It would seem to me that if we can't login to WOW our internet would be down but it's not, or the WOW server would be down but it's not. What ever is causing it has to be something to do with this new rounter/modem. I don't know this brand so I am not sure how you would go about it. all i know is for some reason your router is seeing WoW as a problem and blocking it. so you know routers can and do work as firewalls. they are just a hardware based firewall. that is why you need to go into it and set its permissions to allow it.
How can I get Windstream to disconnect my phone and internet service?
I closed my business on February 8, 2011. I have been trying since that date to get Windstream to disconnect phone and internet service.
They asked me to send them a letter on company letterhead asking that the service be disconnected since they cannot accept a phone call asking that it be turned off. I informed them that I did not have company letterhead, so they said I could simply send an e-mail to them from my listed e-mail address and that would work. I sent the e-mail and received no response.
I called my rep and asked for help. She called the company and asked that service be disconnected. They did not respond.
My Rep also asked me to send a letter to them. I did send the letter and received no response.
I received a call from Windstream asking for payment and I explained that the business was closed and that service needs to be disconnected and that I did not owe them a balance. They said I needed to send an e-mail to them. I did. That e-mail did not get a response.
I was again contacted by them and was told I needed to write on my invoice that I wanted service disconnected. I did send the invoice with notations about disconnecting service and that did not get any response except to get another bill.

We currently have both Internet and TV through a cable company provider. The Internet service is 12 Mbps. With the exception of being without Internet for over a week last year, we've been pretty happy with their service, overall. The problem is, their rates are increasing next month by almost $60.00! Consequently, I am looking for an affordable alternative and still be able to basically keep what we currently have without sacrificing too much in terms of quality and service. I have been using it for a while now and all of the sudden it just stopped connecting say unable to find address of server. I have checked for spelling errors and went through the setting and could find the problem so if some one could help me that would be much appreciated.|||I'm having the same issues, I even went as far as trying another reader. DNS error on laptop and it wont connect to internet?
I have a dell laptop that occasionally won't connect to the internet because of a DNS error. Normally I can restart the desktop computer or modem and router to get it working, but now I cant get it to work. I have a linksys WRT54g wireless router and a speedstream modem. My isp is windstream.

We just got Hughesnet today. We used to have Windstream and my PS3 could connect to it using Wi-Fi. Windstream Internet keeps going out~!~~?
I have a quick question about my Internet.. I have windstream as my ISP and we have had past troubles with Windstream but not quite as often or as bad as now.. Now our internet is going out all the time.. It will go out and just keep resetting itself.. The only way to get the Internet connection again is to turn it off and then back on and then it will catch a connection again. Not sure what to do and or what... Plz don't mention to call windstream or have a technician come to my place because I have already done that and nothing.. so anyways it will stay up for a little while and then all of a sudden quit again.. We have a linksys router so not sure if that is interfering with the modem itself or what but another problem is my laptop is almost like ruining the internet if that makes any sense.. Most of the time the internet will be fine on the desktop and then I go get my mac and use it for a second and the internet will quit on both computers (mac and desktop PC)... As of or around December 7th, Windstream Telecommunications is closing internet technical support centers for DSL/Dial-up. In the press release, they make it sound like ALL the jobs are going to Ohio. Not the case, all the Tier/Level 1 tech support jobs are going to India.
The trial for this was start earlier this year or late last year and they called the desk WinPro, and for whatever reason, they decided to close the two states-based support desks to open the India based one. Anyways, as mentioned, just some information that not everyone may have known.

Why does my internet keep droping my connection?
I can't explain it. At first I thought it was my over-protective anti-virus firewall, but it wasn't because I turned to protection down some and later on I still had this problem. Windstream dsl internet?
i live in florida and we use windstream for our phone and internet provider (dsl), okay i dont know if anybody else has them, they took over alltel and they kinda suck now im noticing, every week we have an outage on our dsl and its theyre fault, well they claim they have trucks sent out to fix the problem, well the problem hasnt been fixed, they fix it temp and its back screwin up again, like what the hell is the problem with theyre stupid internet, everyone in our neighboorhood looses internet when this occures, so like is it to do with the phonelines cus our phone works when it is out.|||could be low bandwidth|||You could have a bad DSL filter, or telephone filter. You could have a telephone that does not have a filter.
If you are sure that is not your problem, run down to the Radio Shack or a Department Store and pickup a 50ft telephone wire. Run it straight from your modem to the main service on the outside of your house. If that clears it up you need to rewire from the service box to the modem.

How do people get such high download speeds?
I went to speedtest.net where it said I download things at 12 mb/s. Which is the highest speed Windstream offers in my town. But I go on some forums and some people have like 80 mb/s speedtest test results in their signature. How the hell do they get such fast internet speeds?|||downloading from multiple sites or people? On limewire I can get up to 200kps from several people. But the trick would be to do some house keeping on your PC, like delete browsing history, tidy registry, defrag hard drive, delete temp internet files, scan for malware / spyware, sufficient ram and any other bottlenecks. I wouldn't place to much faith in speed test, if it is to be accurate it would be registered with the weights and measures department as a measuring device?|||They are connected to a backbone!!
How do I stop a After Dial Terminal message when I try to dial up?
When I dial up a black box with green writing appears that says After Dial terminal. If I don't click "Done" immediately, I have to start all over. i have windows vista with a linksys router, my internet provider is windstream. one of my neighbors is stealing my internet and is slowing down my speed immensely. how do i block them or add a password to cancel them from using my internet?|||There are several key steps to properly securing your Wireless router.
1) Change the SSID.
2) Turn off SSID broadcast.
3) Change the Administrative password of the router.
4) Enable WPA or WPA2. Use a complex password.
5) Enable MAC address filtering and add your data devices to the ALLOW table of the router.
6) Change the default range of IP addresses to what you actually need.
If you need 4 IP addresses set the DHCP to issue just four. Such as 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.103
7) Disable remote Administration. This requires that the router be managed by a computer using an Ethernet connection. Not a wireless connection.
Do not use WEP to secure your wireless connections. WEP can be bypassed in 3 minutes or less.
Do put a label on the bottom of your router with the Admin password and the WPA or WPA2 password. This way if you forget it, you can just look at the bottom. If someone else has physical access, they can just look too, but if someone you don't trust has physical access they can just hit the reset button.|||Sounds like your router hasn't been properly configured.
Login to the router by typing 192.168.1.1 into your web browser. If that doesn't get you in, go to the command prompt (start-run-cmd.exe on WinXP; start-run-command.exe on previous Win OSes) and hit enter. Type ipconfig /all and enter the number you have for your Default Gateway into your web browser. It is likely unintentional that they connected to your router. When you have several wireless access points available, many wireless cards automatically select the strongest signal. Perhaps yours is strongest even though their router is in the same room! These are just possibilities. Implementing the basics outlined here should bump those on your network off and keep you on it.|||ok Open your Internet Explorer or whateva Browser u're usung..

Windstream DSL Problems?
I recenely got DSL through windstream I can get online for like 10 mins or so and the modem resets and I have to unpulg everything to surf another ten minutes it really sucks and I dont know why it does this.|||are you sure the modem is resetting? If it is, i would say it is a lemon and needs to be replaced. If you have any friends with DSL, borrow their modem and test to see if it really is your modem or you have a problem with your telephone line. Why did my psp stop connecing to my internet?
Okay, My computer is running Windows 7, my internet is: Windstream. I have been on the internet with my psp before through this same router. Then one day it just stopped, now it says on the psp: A connection error has occurred A connection to the access point could not be established check the security settings and try again. What can I do to make my internet faster?
I have a cable modem through Windstream and a fairly new computer (it does not have a green screen!!). What are the minimum requirements for a system to be able to support flash sites, video that doesn't have to rebuffer every five seconds, etc. I am frustrated with my computers performance. How do i split an internet connection without a router?

Rural carriers are subsidized to a degree helping their cash flow and the internet subscribers are helping the bottom line. Look at CZN, another rural carrier with a high yield. My dog just tried to bite the windstream guy........?
the guy came out of his car and my dog, a newfoundland just ran up and started barkng and biting. he didnt bite him though just got close. he has never done this before and im really scared. what should i do?|||unless you are willing to go to obedience classes and do some serious socialization with that dog, then u need to be way more careful when someone is coming over. that could be bad for both you and the dog if someone got bit. try enrolling in a local obedience class, did wonders for my dog.|||Make sure your dog cannot get that close again. Keep him in the fence, house or on a leash. If he does bite, you could be in for a lot of trouble and having your dog destroyed. Even if this is the first and only time you have seen it, he may do it again. Better to err on side of caution than on someone being seriously injured and you being sued and the dog dying.

Problems with Windstream DSL?
Just about everyday the DSL light will go off and come back on for like 5 sconds then go back off.... It will keep doing this for hours and as a result I can't use the internet.. Windstream hasn't been much of a help with the problem and I can't figure out what to do to make it work(It just comes back on its own). Does anyone know how I can fix it or make it start working when it does it?|||You have got to get Windstream to find and fix the problem.

My firewall on my router is turned OFF, but morpheus says i'm firewalled, and I can't download anything. Help me please!

Do you have NAT enabled in your modem? You can check this either in modem settings, or by checking your IP address in Start %26gt; Run %26gt; type "cmd" sans quotes %26gt; type "ipconfig" also without the "". If your IP is something like 192.168 then you are behind NAT and need to forward the ports used by Morpheus in your modem settings.

If your internet is getting affected by your telephone service, either one of two things is happening...
1- If you have DSL, ensure that ALL devices connected to your phone line EXCEPT for the DSL modem is properly filtered. Every telephone, fax machine, dial up modem, satellite box, alarm system, and any other device connected to the phone line needs to be filtered (of course except for the DSL modem it self)
On occasion the DSL signal may still leak thru a filter, so with some installations you may require adding 2 filters to your phone line...
2- You are using a 2.4Ghz cordless telephone, and have wifi. If this is the case, before you run out and replace your telephone there are a few things that you can attempt to resolve this issue. First try to change the channel that your wireless router operates on. Normally the address for your router is located at http://192.168.1.1 but if this is not the address for your modem, then you can go to the start menu and type in CMD then hit enter at the command prompt type in IPCONFIG and then hit enter look for the default gateway, and enter those numbers into your browser.
The standard default user ID and password combinations are:
User ID: admin
Password: admin =or= password =or= just leave blank
if none of these combinations work, you will have to search for the default password to your router in the manual, or online. Sometimes the password may be located on the router itself.
Once logged into the router, look for the wireless settings and change the channel that the wifi operates on. You do not need to change the settings for the devices that connect wirelessly to your router, if this is the only setting that you change. Changing this setting should reduce or eliminate the trouble between your 2.4 Ghz phone, and you wireless router.
If you continue to have problems with the above troubleshooting tips, try moving your cordless phone further away from your wireless router, and/or plugging it into a different power outlet. If all else fails, replace your 2.4Ghz phone with a 5.8Ghz phone, or a 1.9Ghz DECT phone.|||You need to make sure there are filters on all of your phone jacks.

Has anyone had any problems with their Windstream internet BroadBand service. I was told we had a huge outage?
I had trouble with mine a few days ago. Frankly the whole windstream deal has been a headache from the moment I called to sign on. I have frequent loss of my internet and I have to unplug everything for a few minutes and then try it all again. Will a Linksys WRT160N Wireless-N Home Router work with a Windstream Speed Stream modem & Dell XPS laptop?

I have windstream.net Can anyone tell me why I can't access my mail from friends computer.?
This friend has comcast I get error message 100 - have no difficulty with windstream from my home computer|||Maybe their computer has some kind of "control" over it. Ex. Parental Control. That blocks accessing some webpages.
If that does isn't the problem, then in your browser, click on options, and then change the settings for your cookies! It's maybe blocked from cookies.
If it's also not from there, then I wouldn't know the reason.

These modems actually issue private IP's to your system, if that IP range happens to be the same as the "VPN" range you are attempting to connect into, you can get some errors!
Download the users manual from Windstream (under the "Broadband Checkup" tab at the top. And check the settings. It may be as simple as enabling IPsec in the modem or if you have another router behind that modem setting the Speedstream to Bridge Mode! Since you didn't say how you are setup I can only take a guess.
What happens when you are DIRECTLY connected to the modem (if you have another router?)
