Do I need a new Windstream DSL or a new Windstream router?

have a linksys wireless-g router and a windstream dsl modem conneted to a desktop and a laptop. The desktop is in the basement of my house and I am getting a new desktop to put 2 floors above the desktop I already have. I was wondering if I have to buy a new windstream dsl modem to put with the new desktop? Or can I get a wireless card to put into the desktop?|||The short answer is "it depends".

You probably will only need a new wireless card for the new desktop - just make sure it's a Wireless-G supporting card. You will likely also have to adjust one of the antennae on the router if it's not already setup to hit the upstairs. The antennae transmit and receive perpendicular to their orientation. That is, if it's sticking straight up, it goes outward (not up and down). So if you you might have to stick one of the antennae so it's pointing straight out, parallel to the ground so that it gets a better signal upstairs.

Also note that WiFi has a range limit, depending on whether you're using B, G or N standard, so you just might have to pick up a WiFi repeater. Any electronics store that sells WiFi equipment should have them (MicroCenter, Best Buy, etc). Just make sure it's the same type (G) and put it about half-way between the source and the destination, so probably somewhere on the 1st floor.
